Turn the Focus on Youth

Next Gen (Hey! That's us!)

Do you know a youth or young adult that's done something and deserves recognition for it? Tell us!

We've recently started a new series, Future Focus, to turn the spotlight on the amazing youth and young adults of Strathcona County that are doing amazing things. This could something like starting a fundraiser, advocating for a cause, or staying a bit late to help clean things up.

If you have someone in mind (and yes, it can be you), send us an email at info@strathconextgen.ca or use the button below.

"wait, what exactly do you do?"

In the simplest terms, we do a bit of everything.

Our group both serves and is led by the youth and young adults of Strathcona County. This means that whatever they want to see, we want to do.

We host and participate in community events, advocate for the youth and young adult voice, contribute to local initiatives, collect and maintain an assortment of resources, and work towards a future-friendly Strathcona County to name a few things.

What we do is always expanding and always changing but, no matter what, we're always here for youth and young adults.

cool stuff, right?

this is not our land

Strathcona County Next Gen acknowledges that we are located on Treaty Six Territory and the homeland of the Métis Nation of Alberta, Regions Two and Four.

We recognize that we stand upon land that carries the footsteps of Cree, Métis, Blackfoot, Nakota Sioux, Iroquois, Dene, Ojibway/Saulteaux/Anishinaabe, and Inuit peoples who are just a few amongst many other nations who have been here for thousands of years. It is our inherent responsibility that we should all strive to foster healthier relationships with the Indigenous Peoples of the land we share and to further the Calls to Action as outlined by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

While bringing a voice to our next generations, we hold honour for those that have walked before us and aspire to develop a vibrant and diverse community in which everyone is welcome and has a role to play. We will not forget the footsteps of those who have walked where we now build.

These words are by no means enough on their own so let us all work together to repair the damage left behind from forceful colonization and assimilations. Everyone should be able to feel safe and welcome in the lands they call home.
